What is maltodextrin, is it bad or healthy for you?

some people say it is a food additive, what is that?
and some people say it gives you alot of energy

a sugar... it's not good for you

it's just a type of sugar...

Maltodextrin is a complex sugar that the human digestive system breaks down into simple sugars very quickly. As such, it provides a longer 'burn' of energy that sucrose or fructose.

That's why it's used in a lot of endurance enhancing products like gels that cyclists use on the road.

Is it bad for you? Not intrinsically, it's one of the best fuel sources for serious cyclists, triathletes, etc. But energy gels certainly aren't recommended snack foods - they're not intended for that purpose.

Hope this helps. I'm told that maltodextrin isn't necessarily an artificial compound either, so if it's added to foods it's a lot like adding more sugar - for better or worse.

Best to you.

I've never heard of it but it sounds like a diet pill and if it's anything on tv do not use it!! All that is bad for your heart and does not work anyways. Check out a health store and see what they got there or go see a doctor. Good luck!!

maltodextrin is a moderately sweet polysaccharide used as a food additive, unrelated to barley malt. It is produced from corn starch and is usually found as a creamy white hygroscopic powder. Maltodextrin is easily digestible, being absorbed as rapidly as glucose.

Maltodextrin
Description: A carbohydrate of minimal sweetness usually produced from corn starch. Often used to create additional mass to a food substance (as in confections) without altering flavor. Also added to nutritional beverages to increase caloric content.
Side Effects: Generally regarded as safe
Common Uses: Confectionery, desserts, nutritional beverages.

Maltodextrins are easily digestible carbohydrates made from natural corn starch. The starch is cooked, and then acid and/or enzymes are used to break the starch into smaller polymers (a process similar to that used by the body to digest carbohydrate).

Maltodextrins (CrystaLean庐, Lorelite, Lycadex庐, MALTRIN庐, Paselli庐D-LITE, Paselli庐EXCEL, Paselli庐SA2, STAR-DRI庐)
Four calorie/gram gel or powder derived from carbohydrate sources such as corn, potato, wheat and tapioca. Used as fat replacer, texture modifier or bulking agent. Applications include baked goods, dairy products, salad dressings, spreads, sauces, frostings, fillings, processed meat, frozen desserts, extruded products and beverages.

Food additives are substances added to food to preserve flavor or improve its taste and appearance.

Corn starch isn't very healthy in large quantities. I really don't know if they are healthy or not but if Maltodextrons are made from starches then they are probably not too good for you. Watch the intake.
