Is Amaranth healthy?

I read two articles about "amaranth" and they had completely opposite information regarding the benefits. One said it is a very healthy, super food, grain. The other said that it should be avoided because it is a food additive and could be the cause of eczema and asthma!

I did a search and found information on both subjects. There's gotta big a misunderstanding somewhere...or 2 things are named 'amaranth'.

Does anyone know?

I agree. Amaranth is a healthy grain many Celiac's use as an alternative to wheat, rye and barley.

amaranth [Amaranthaceae] Many varieties; related to spinach, beets and pigweed. Tiny seeds are commercially available whole, or ground into a light brown flour with a nutty taste. Highly nutritious. Edible leaves.
