Folliculitis treatment?

I have had folliculitis on my back and upper arms for years. I have been to many doctors and took nizoral for months. When I was on the medication the folliculitis went away, but as soon as I stopped taking it it came right back. My condition is getting to the piont were I can't sleep. The itching is so bad I can not even deal with it anymore. 24hrs. a day, it feels like thousand of ants on my skin. After I take a shower my skin feels like a coarse sand paper. The medication for this is very bad for the liver. If anyone can help me you will become my GOD.

I don't want to become your GOD but I recently got treated for folliculitus for my left leg. My primary doctor prescribed all kinds of creams for me and I had allerfic reactions to them. You want to know what she prescribed for me?? Bacitracin. Simple.... cheap... easy Bacitracin. I used it 2-3 times a day or whenever it itched and it went away! The itch stopped and I was amazed that it was so simple to get rid of.

Now I just have to be careful when I shave because you know it's a whole hair follicle thing going on. But definitely try the Bacitracin and see how that works. And get some really really good lotion. My dermatologist reccommended Am Lactin (you have to ask your pharmacist for it) and Lubriderm. Drink plenty of water and get back to me if the Bacitracin worked or not ok?

I wish you the best!!!

I don't have any specific experience with folliculitis but the medication you were given is for fungal infections. If it was working it might be safely assumed that your folliculitis is caused by a fungus.

Usually fungi attack when there is a weakened immune system. There are many ways to increase your ability to fight fungal infections. Yeast infections are fungal too. I have very successfully dealt with yeast by removing all sugar and most carbs from my diet, supplementing with a multivitamin+vitamins A, C, B-complex and E and zinc, Kyolic garlic, and acidophilus.

If I wasn't sure of the source or cause of infection/ inflamation, I would also take chlorophyll which helps wipe out boils that are caused by bacteria. My favorite form of the chlorophyll is "Chlorofresh" mint flavor... It is a scary shade of green but it really helps a lot.

If you feel like you have tried everything regular medicine can offer, or that the medicine they can use is too dangerous you might check with an acupuncturist or homeopath. I have to pay for mine out of pocket but it has been well worth it to expand the treatment possibilities beyond drugs.

I would expect a change in diet and supplements to take at least a week maybe two or three to really work. The fastest I ever got yeast to go away is 3 days ( after a extremely restricted carb diet- no sugar and only about 15g carb/meal.) This was originally done under the supervision of a doctor.

try googling hidradenitis superative, which is often misdiagnosed as folliculitis. I suffered for 12 years with it until I found out I was allergic to wheat, eggs, soy and dairy. Once I eliminated those from my diet, it cleared right up. Every time I cheat on my diet, it comes back. Try keeping a food diary for a couple of weeks to see if it gets worse after eating certain things, then try eliminating those things. Best of luck
