I shave my face and head. I also have folliculitis. Any good skin advice? |
I have used countless OTC and prescription remedies and none will clear it up completely. I am currently on minocyn. Your shaver may be dull or contaminated. It may shave too close or not close enough. Keep it clean enough to eat off of. Use Barbicide on it every time. Also, look into the special shavers that black men use to prevent the ingrown hairs that curly-haired people can get. Also, the shaving is abrasive and opens the follicles by tearing the skin around the follicles. Shaving may not be for you. You have to keep the skin clean, but gently, and also everything you use on yourself - implements and stuff you apply. I used to get razor burn which is like folliculitis (caused by staph germ) and I started soaking the head of my razor in rubbing alcohol. This helped. Also get an Rx for Bactroban ointment for treating the folliculitis because dealing with folliculitis is kind of like playing whack-a-mole until you get the reason for the underlying infection under control. Also read in the Archives about using intranasal Bactroban, because if you have chronic folliculitis then your skin and nose is probably colonized by the staph germ and intranasal Bactroban will really help after a few weeks use. Also be very hygienic about washing your hands and using new, clean razors. You might try applying rubbing alcohol or Hibiclens to your skin after shaving but expect some burning with the rubbing alcohol. you should be shaving after a warm shower ,or soak a warm face towel with mild soap. apply the towel to your face and head then shave using a clean razor,.sometimes its also how you shave,.,. you should be shaving in the direction of the hair,.not against the hair follicles,. |
