Does anyone know a good treatment for folliculitis on the arms? |
Does anyone know a good treatment for folliculitis on the arms? Do you shave your arms, back, or chest ?? Are you certain that you have folliculitis ?? If you do shave, you should shave in the direction of the hair growth not against the growth of the hairs. This will reduce having this problem. To relieve the symptoms, it would be best to apply warm compresses for 15-20 mins./day and this should be done 3-4 times a day. Also, while showering, let the warm water run over the area. The warmth will open up the pores and,the hair follicle opening so that the ingrown hairs can be brought to the surface on your skin. Most times, then, the ingrown hairs will fall out. If not, and you are able to see the hair on the surface, use CLEAN tweezers to release the hair ( s ). If the area appears infected, warm to the touch, redness, weeping of a fluid-like substance, the area is firm, then you should contact your Doc. I hope that this helps. Keep the area clean and dry, try applying neosporin, bacitracin or simple Vaseline with a bandage. If it appears to spread, see a doctor. It has taken me three weeks to get rid of some, and I am just at the point where I am going to the doctor. There is something called community acquired MRSA that presents as a folliculitis, you usually ge tit from the gym or the like, if you think you could have that...get to the doctor, common antibiotics like I suggested will not help.
