What foods have folic acid in them? What are the benefits of folic acid? many people don't know this, but the breakfast cereal CAPN CRUNCH is LOADED with it1 Along with vitamen B12 it aids maturation of red cells. Spinach and other green leafy vegetables, liver, asparagus, lima beans, nuts, orange juice, and whole grain cereals. Folic acid is essential for cell growth and reproduction. It helps with the binding of vitamin B12 and its absorption. Lack of folic acid can lead to poor growth, graying hair, GI lesions and diarrhea. It can also cause anemia. Folic acid was prescribed to me by my Doctor to help ward off heart problems. I take 1200 mg per day. (400 in a Multivitamin and an extra 800 mg by itself.) I believe folic acid is a Vitamin B ~ im not positive ~ Folic acid should be taken by someone thinking about getting pregnant I think . I probably shouldnt have answered this as I am unsure ~ but I take folic acid while taking oral chemotherapy for arthritis. I must neutralize the stomach as some of the meds can bother the inner lining of the stomach. I have had no problems what so ever. Your body absorbs folic acid better from supplements than food. |
