Hi,

If you are trying to get pregnant, you should ideally begin taking folic acid 3 months before trying to concieve and until the 12 wk of pregnancy. I take Sanatogen Pro Natal, it gives you everything you need.

"Folic acid (vitamin B9) is very important for the development of a healthy foetus, as it can significantly reduce the risk of neural tube defects (NTDs), such as spina bifida.

The Department of Health recommends that women should take a daily supplement of 0.4mg of folic acid while they're trying to conceive, and should continue taking this dose for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, when the baby's spine is developing.

You can get folic acid tablets from pharmacies, large supermarkets, health food stores and on prescription. Dietary sources of folic acid include green, leafy vegetables, breakfast cereals and bread. Always check the food labels.

If you are at increased risk of having a baby with a neural tube defect - perhaps because you have previously given birth to a baby with a NTD or because you are taking medication for a condition such as epilepsy - a higher dose of folic acid (usually 4.0 to 5.0 mg) is recommended to reduce your chances of having another child with a NTD. This higher dose is available on prescription from your GP. Your GP or midwife may also recommend additional screening tests during pregnancy.

There are a number of conditions that increase the risk of folic acid deficiency. Those being treated with anticonvulsant medicines, those on kidney dialysis, and those with conditions such as liver disease, malabsorption (difficulty absorbing vitamins and minerals) or certain types of anaemia, may need to supplement their diet with additional folic acid.

If you are taking medication for a medical condition, check with your GP before taking folic acid supplements".

Good luck xx

well i don't think anything like that would help u in getting pregnant ......better consult ur doctor

sometimes taking those pills can be harmful to your body if you aren't pregnant http://www.webmd.com/baby/default.htm

you are only supposed to begin taking folic acid once you fall pregnant as it is an aid to help the babys spine form properly it doesnt make you any more fertile.

Consult your gynac. Do not take over dose.
If the lady鈥檚 period is regular, the ovulation may take place between 10th and 15th day from the first day of her period. Have relation on alternate days during this period. The wife should lie down on her back for half hour. Keep pillows under her buttock to prevent semen flowing out. Observe this for 3 to 4 cycles. The month she misses her period, wait for ten days and then go for urine pregnancy test. If positive, do not have sex till you consult a gynac. Particularly avoid deep penetrative sex. Drinking Indian Mulberry fruit juice is good for male and female infertility.

folic acid supplementation is prescribed to those who r planning to concieve and have risk factors for having a baby with neural tube defects..once u concieve it can b discontinued after 3 mnths wen neural tube develops.

anyway taking it as 5 mg per day is not harmful.
