Im taking folic acid tablets 5mg yet im anaemic why/?

i have no periods, hiatus hernia, gastritis i take statins, high blood pressure tablets, yet my blood pressure is now very low resulting in my having a funny turn last week, help

there are two types of anaemia:
- the most commonly heard of iron deficiency anaemia. If you arent having periods you should not have iron deficiency anaemia. Symptoms of this deficiency however are feeling reall worn out, fainting, chewing ice cubes, looking pale.

-Macrocytic anemia is caused by either folic acid or vitamin B12 deficiency. If this is what you have then you should take vitamin b12 supplements as well as just taking folic acid alone wont help anything and will make your symptoms worse. symptoms of folic or b12 deficiency include tiredness, depression, difficulty concentration, forgetfulness etc

If you're on high blood pressure tablets and are now saying you have had a 'funny turn' where you feel your blood pressure was low- it can be a symptom of an anaemia or it could just be that your meds need revising

All three things ive mentioned are quick and simple to be looked at by your doctor so pop along and get it sorted.

folic acid is not iron, so if you think your anaemic , get some blood tests done, and if tests show you are then some iron tablets

Yes you need to take an iron supplement as Steven says.

Folic acid has nothing to do with anaemia. You may be confusing it with Iron, which IS for anaemia.

Why are you taking tablets for high blood pressure when you say your blood prssure is very low? It sounds as if you need to see your doctor for a medication review.
