What is folic acid for???

in women, it is important to take folic acid during pregnancy to reduce the risk of what are called neural tube defects (NTDs). an example of an NTD is spina bifida, in which the spinal cord is exposed to air (usually at the base of the spinal cord), and can cause paralysis, motor dysfunction, and other problems. so for women, it is very important.

Pregnant women. To be honest with you I'm not sure of the fuction and nutritional need to the body, but I do know that pregnant women need more of it - thus the pre-natal pills that are high in folic acid.

is what pregnant ladies take, for extra vitamin's or i think it for helping the baby develop properly...

I would just like to add that women who are planning to get pregnant should be taking folic acid before they conceive.
