Is vitamin C and folic Acid the same thing?

My mother in law says it is

They are two different vitamins with different functions.

Folic Acid - water-soluble B vitamin, also called folacin or folate. In fact, it's necessary for every function that requires cell division. Folic acid is critical to DNA and RNA formation and assures that cells duplicate normally. It is especially important in fetal development and helps produce key chemicals for the brain and nervous system.

Vitamin C - As the body's primary water-soluble antioxidant, vitamin C helps fight damage caused by unstable oxygen molecules called free radicals - especially in those areas that are mostly water, such as the interior of cells.

Folic acid is a form of the water soluble Vitamin B9. Ascorbic Acid is Vitamin C. There is a big difference

No, the molecules are not the same and they are used (biochemically) in very different ways.

many vitamin preparations pair vitamin c and folic acid but they are complementary not identical.....are you pregnant or planning to be? be sure to have plenty of both.

No. Vitamin C is ascorbic acid. Folic acid is something completely different.

No.

Folic acid is one of the B vitamins. She is thinking of ascorbic acid which is Vitamin C.

Nope...
