hi. my wife and daughter are both B12 deficient. This is called pernicious anemia. It is nopt the anemia that is to do with red blood cells. They bot have injections of B12 on a 12 weeks basis. You should type pernicious anemia into google and read through the web sites. Hope you get some info from that. Good luck.

Also check with the Life Extention Foundation. They have excellent articles and at least one on this topic, but the character limit is too low for a direct link. www.lef.org Report It

B12 and folate are B complex vitamins that are necessary for normal red blood cell formation, tissue and cellular repair, and DNA synthesis. A B12 and/or folate deficiency reflects a chronic shortage of one or both of these vitamins. Since the body stores 3 to 5 years worth of B12 and several months鈥?supply of folate in the liver, deficiencies and their associated symptoms can take months to years to manifest in adults.
Over time, a deficiency in either B12 or folate can lead to macrocytic anemia. It can also result in varying degrees of neuropathy, nerve damage that can cause tingling and numbness in the patient鈥檚 hands and feet and mental changes such as confusion, irritability, and depression.
B12 and folate deficiency may be due to insufficient intake, inadequate absorption, increased loss, or to increased need.
It also can be caused by insufficient stomach acid necessary to separate B12 from ingested protein or a lack of intrinsic factor, a substance produced by parietal cells in the stomach that binds with B12 before absorption by the intestines.
Treatment frequently involves long-term or lifetime supplementation. Patients who lack intrinsic factor or have conditions causing general malabsorption may require injections of B12. Folate/folic acid is an oral supplement.

main symptom is anemia, hair loss, lethargy, pale coloration of mucous membranes of eyes
