Do men need to take in folate?

I know that folate is good for women, but does it do anything for men?

Everyone needs folate, but what's in our food already is good enough. Pregnant women need extra in the form of prenatal vitamin supplements because it helps prevent spinal defects in babies.

Just to be clear, intrinsic factor is not a combination of B6, B12, and folate, nor is it used in nerve endings (B12 is though). Intrinsic factor is made in the stomach and helps your intestines absorb B12. Folate modifies B12 to help red blood cells and others to multiply and grow up like they're supposed to. If you've got a dietary deficiency in B12 or folate, you get funny looking red blood cells which can't carry oxygen as they normally would. Likewise, if you've had gastric bypass or something so that you don't have the part of your stomach that produces intrinsic factor, you can't absorb B12 and get pernicious anemia that way. B6 has nothing to do with any of this.

yes. folate is good. it's a b vitamin. it's good for your eyes skin and blood. not sure exactly how though, sorry
