Is there a difference between folic acid and folate? What is the recommended daily dose for each?

Yes, they are the same - the recommendation is 400 micrograms daily, and is in most general vitamins. If you are preparing to get pregnant, you should probably double that recommendation.

folic acid = folate (aka vitamin B9)
RDA for folate is 400 ug per day for those >19yrs of age. More for pregnant or breast feeding women.
Folate is the anion form of folic acid.
