Is folic acid the same as folate?

Is folic acid the same as folate?

Folate and folic acid are forms of a water-soluble B vitamin. Folate occurs naturally in food and folic acid is the synthetic form of this vitamin. Folic acid is well-tolerated in amounts found in fortified foods and supplements, in doses less than 1,000 micrograms per day. Sources include cereals, baked goods, leafy vegetables (spinach, broccoli, lettuce), okra, asparagus, fruits (bananas, melons, lemons), legumes, yeast, mushrooms, organ meat (beef liver, kidney), orange juice, and tomato juice. Folic acid is frequently used in combination with other B vitamins in vitamin B complex formulations.

Yes, the termination "-ate" stands for acid.

I don't think so because folic acid is something the doctor tells you to take sometimes when your trying to get pregnant and they will tell you not folate

Folate, Folacin, and Folic Acid are all the same. Folate and Folic Acid (the anion form) are forms of the water-soluble Vitamin B9.
