Low ferritin in blood work? |
I went to the doctor last week and he ran my blood for my b12, folate and ferritin levels. I got a postcard in the mail today saying that the b12 and folate were normal, but the ferritin was low. Dr says to start iron supplement of 325mg daily. Low ferritin levles mean that your bodys iron stores are low. When we take i more iron than our blood needs its stored in the body for times when iron intake it lower. At these times its released onto the blood. The most usual cause of low ferritin is an iron poor diet. if your not getting enough iron your body has to use the iron stores and if you keep up the iron poor diet the iron stores arent replaced and they waste away. |
