Starving yourself to lose weight, the "smart" way?

Ok, a friend of mine told me she was going to star starving herself the "smart" way which consists of a diet of daily vitamins and minerals.

Vitamins: Biotin, Folate, A, B(1,2,3,5,6,12), C, D, E, and K
Minerals: Boron, Calcium, Chromium, Copper, Fluorine, Iodine, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Molybdenum, Nickel, Phosphorus, Potassium, Selenium, Sodium, Vanadium and Zinc.

and hydration by Vitamin Water, and natural spring water.

with maybe slight snacks once a day every other day of either fruit or vegetables, and a daily workout.

Would this actually work? Please don't tell me this is bad for you and such as she's already heard it I need some facts about how this diet will be effective.

there is nothing smart in this plan.
body needs 50cal/hour just for basic functioning (like when you are in coma) so thats 1200cal/day.
when you go on crash diet all you lose is water weight and muscle NOT fat and dramatically slow down your metabolism which and end up having higher body fat percentage not even talking about that you gain more than lost as soon as you start eating normal again.
body needs nutrients (e.g. protein, dietary fibes, helthy fats) to survive and work properly and vitamins are not nutrients

worst way
when you starve you do not work the body and muscle groups correctly and then when you get off it, you gain weight back faster.

Do you ever watch Surviror the TV show.
They all lost weight in the program.
But when they have the reunion show, all are much chubbier than during the broadcast season.

I will ask for a BA if that is okay.

Thank you and talk again.

It might work at first, but then she will ruin her metabolism.
Since no one can survive on that diet for a long period of time, when she does eat her body will hold on to everything and anything she eats, causing her to eventually gain back what she lost and more.

It's not a good idea....

I would think that by taking loads of vitamins everyday and not eating, the lining of the stomach wouldn't take it too well... She would feel like puking after taking the vitamins and such due to lack of food in the stomach. I would suggest a low calorie liquid diet, a sort of slim fast diet... Slim fast has a huge variety of vitamins and minerals, and it is also full of proteins to help keep the body strong.

this would not work, your body is going to go into starvation and it starts feeding off all the stored fat, which will only make you gain more weight. your best bet is figuring out what you eat daily, if you eat alot of carbs, cut the carbs, if you eat alot of salt, cut the sodium, watch your calorie intake, and drink LOTS of water. my cousin is doing weight watchers, and drinking 6 glasses of water a day is 1 of the things they recommend, with eating within her points range, and she has lost weight consistantly. out of the 6 glasses of water, 3 of them need to be plain water, the other 3 can be like the vitamin water, or crystal light...but by the diet you would be doing, your putting your body into starvation and its going to feed off the stored fat, especially eating snacks every other day, its going to make it even worse. cut the carbs, sodium, look at the grams of fat in your food too. when you buy something, eat the serving size recommended, like if you have a bowl of cereal for instance, instead of pouring the box into the bowl until you see the desired amount, look at the serving size, 3/4c is the serving size on 1 of mine..plus 1 cup of milk.....instead of 1-2 cups of cereal and like 2-3 cups of milk...cut back on things like that...or look into another diet but that 1 will only make things worse

If all we needed were multi-vitamins to stay healthy, I don't think we'd see the health patterns we see today.

This will actually work Starving yourself does, in fact, help you lose weight. It will not, however, help you lose FAT. When the body goes into starvation mode, it burns lean muscle tissue, an easier source of energy than fat. So, essentially your body will start eating the muscles before it eats the fat. It uses the fat as a last resort.

As soon as calories are re-introduced to the body, the body clings to them and stores them as more fat for future periods of starvation.

So your "friend" will either have to starve herself for the rest of her life, which would be short, or plan to put the weight back on and MORE when she starts eating again.

Starvation is the most counter-productive weight loss option there is.

ya... it should work....
