Low amniotic fluid at 24 wks pregnant. Can anyone help?

Hi, i am 24 weeks pregnant and at 22 weeks was told my amniotic fluid was low and 2 come back for another ultrasound. I went back last week and was told the fluid has gone down again but they cannot see a reason why as the kidneys and bladder are fine and there is no bleed behind placenta. Also i am not leaking any fluid that i know of. I have another ultrasound in a week and a half. My fluid level measured 9cm..Can anybody give me any more information on this as the doctor did not tell me much? thanks

I don't think that the doctor knows what he/she is doing, especially if they're leaving you so uninformed and clueless.

you are just beginning your third trimester, and the normal level for this is 5-25 cm. so as you see, you're not at a worrying level. 5cm and below would be considered low. you are not at a risk of developing Oligohydramnios, if at all (which is the name for the condition of having very low amniotic fluid).

the risks of having a low amniotic fluid level are restricting your baby's lungs growing, and also at birth: having a dry leathery skin or a mis-shapen face.

for more information, have a look at this site.

i hope it puts your mind at rest

I think it's time for you to get a second opinion. If another doctor figures your problem out, you may want to consider changing ob/gyns.

Good luck, hon. :)
