Can having fluid behind your eardrum become serious?

When I was a child I had tubes put in my ears. I also had a preferated eardrum (hole in my eardrum).
Well I'm 30 now and just recently had an ear infection. I went to the doc and they gave me antibiotics which cleared the infection up. Now i'm left with fluid behind my eardrum. i'm not in pain but sometimes I can feel a little pressure and it is a weird sensation. I can even hear my own heartbeat.
I told the doctor and he checked and confirmed the fluid being there. He told me to take Calritin D which I have been taking for over 2 weeks. It's not helping. I still have the fulid there. I have an appointment at the Ear, Nose and Throat Doc in a week and a half. I couldn't get there any sooner as I need a referall to go and they wouldn't get me in any sooner.
Can this do any damage to my ear with having fluid in it for so long?

No, you should be fine until your ENT appt.
