Do Flu shots really help?

I've gotten a flu shot three times in my life (2003, 2004, and 2005, I would've gotten them last year if not for the shortage).

My mom makes me get them, because I have/had Asthma (I haven't had any symptoms of Asthma in over 5 years.)

Every year I have gotten a flu shot, I have gotten the flu really bad. And every year that I didn't get the shot, I didn't get the flu (except for one year when I was a young child).

So I'm wondering if they REALLY help. Because from my experiences, the only effect it has on me is an incredibly sore arm.

No flu shots are a scam by the drug companies to get you sick so you buy meds to help with your flu symptoms. I work in a hospital and the year that there was a flu shot shortage was the year we barely had a pt with the flu
