Flu vaccine question?

My Mthnlaw said that her Dr's nurse told her that they would give her a flu in Nov or Dec b/c if they gave it to her now "It wouldn't last till March, when flu season ends" This sounds odd to me, b/c I've always understood once vaccinated, always vaccinated- Is this true? Should flu vaccine be taken as late in the season as possible? true scientific answers only, please, thanks!

Not true. You have to get the vaccine as early as possible (October) for it to last all season and not get the flu. The vaccine WOULD last until the season ends.

That nurse is giving people incorrect information.

Yes, it is true.
Each year, the flu vaccines have to be modified to cover the mutations that occur in the flu viruses. The flu season typically begins in late Oct and goes thru Jan, dwindling off in March. The drug companies usually don't even start distributing flu vaccines until Oct...have you ever tried getting a flu vaccine, say, in July? The vaccination must be given yearly and only has an effect for about 3 months or so.
Check this link to the CDC for more info:

A flu vaccine will last about 7 months. Oddly enough, recovery from a natural infection will keep you protected the rest of your life to that influenza strain. Mysteries of the immune system.
