Got flu shot sat. ...around sick person yesterday...feel ill today..flu shot make matters worse?

Hi....I am 18 years old, and I have asthma. I got my flu shot on Saturday. i wasn't feeling 100%, but not ill/ Yesterday, i rode back to my college with my roommate, who was complaining of a sore throat, sniffles, and he had a slight cough. Today I feel a little under the weather, as if I might be getting sick. can the fact that i got the flu shot and no aw am feeling sick make me ge even sicker? please help!

The Flu shot will only help protect you from Influenza and then only the strains that are included in the vaccine. It takes some time for your body to develop the necessary antibodies (a few weeks or so). It is pretty early in the flu season and most likely that your roommate has some other viral Upper Respiratory Illness (common cold). The flu shot does not protect you from the common cold. Sorry. The flu shot may give you some minor viral like symptoms but they are usually not noticeable. Having just received the flu shot will not make you any sicker from the cold that you may catch from your roommate than if you had not received it. You did the right thing in getting the flu shot.

flus shot don't make you sick,

not from active culture.

flue shots shouldnt make you feel sick.

Remember what's inside vaccinations... it is the actual thing they are injecting in you that you are trying to avoid. They inject weak amounts of the flu strain inside, so your body can fight it and have the antibodies ready. If you feel a little weak, it's probably your body fighting the vaccination. Should go away soon! :-)

But if your friend didn't have the flu, you could have caught her cold though. eep....

Also possible you were sick while you had the shot???

The flu shot isn't what made you sick, and it doesn't mean you won't get sick. No, the flu shot won't make you sicker.

You're asthmatic. You need to get the flu shot every year as a precaution.
