Stomach flu?

I think my sister has the stomach flu... yesterday had diarrhea and woke up last night with stomach cramps and vomited. But to my knowledge, she is fine. do people with stomach flu often vomit several times during the day? if so it would ease my mind, and it would probably be food poisoning (so it wont be rampantly contagious)

and how many cases of stomach flu victims don't actually vomit ? Just feel horible nausea? I am an emetophobe (fear of vomiting...really) and I am so worried about this, it's not even funny.

i was trying to say she only vomited once, took a long nap, then was fine

If it is the stomach flu, then it will probably pass in a day or two...however, it could lead to other things such as dehydration and that could make other things worse...
Any way, if it is food poisoning, then it's probably a good thing to vomit and/or have diarrhea...this way the body rids itself of the poison.
It's hard to say how many people actually vomit with these types of illnesses.
Feeling nauseated all day long can really be a bummer too. Sometimes, to me, that is even worse...at least if you do vomit, you usually feel better afterwards.
Some of the ways you can take precautions is to wash your hands frequently, and make sure you don't use the same glassware, or utensils...sharing things is a no no...
You may want to buy some pepto bismal, ginger ale and crackers...just in case....

I am really scared of throwing up too. Thank you for the advice. Report It

Wow I thought It was just me I have always feared it too I had a friend that threw up in school(in front of everyone) when I was young Ive had that fear since than. Report It

The stomach flu is usually caused by a norovirus. It's highly contagious and the person does not usually have diarrhea, just vomiting, intense nausea, cramps, chills. You can vomit any number of times but just once is not uncommon. It last usually 24 hours but it may take 1-4 more days to feel fully well. You can reduce your chances of getting it by disinfecting surfaces = especially the bathroom and washing your hands like crazy. Your sister (if she has a norovirus) will be contagious for a while even after she recovers. It's transmitted by the fecal to oral route == gross. Wash those hands!

I seriously have that phobia too. But to ease your mind you can take gravol or generic one too(cheaper) if you feel sick and stick to liquids.
