I have had a floater in my eye for over a week. Is there any known way to get rid of the condition? |
I went to the eye doctor. He said that my vision is fine except for the floater. He also said there wasn't anything that I can do about it. It will be with me for the rest of my life. The floater is driving me crazy. Is there any known treatment? It could be a sign of a detached retina. If your eye doctor doesn't have a solution, go to another one. It could be serious. i have never heard of any treatment. a floater is a tiny blood vessel that has dried up. it happens as we age. my first floater bothered me, too, but after a while i quit even noticing it. its quite normal As far as I know, no there's nothing you can do. your eye doctor is full of CRAP. go to a new one and tell him you want diagnostics for detached retina. new occurance floaters can be signs of a serious optic condition I don't know your age, but floaters are common in people over age 30. It results from the vitreous in your eye breaking down as you get older. Some people have it and some don't. It's nothing to be alarmed about; especially if you just went to your doctor and had a dilated eye exam. If he dilated your eye and checked the retina and said you are okay, then okay....but if he didn't specifically look at your retina, perhaps you should have that checked. Sometimes the retina tears and the fluid seeps out causing what seems to be a "floater". Torn retinas happen (I've had mine torn in each eye) and if there is a problem, they just lasar it and you are good to go. Please don't take any chances with your eyesight. Also, if you get more floaters or like a dark "curtain" coming over your line of sight, please, please get to the doctor, that is more than likely a torn retiana it needs to be taken care of right away. With my last torn retina , I didn't have the curtain, I just had lots of black dots (like looking through a dirty window), the first time I had the "curtain" effect, so be careful either way. By the way, both times I had lasar surgery (very quick and easy) and I am FINE. Best wishes. I would not worry so much about a detatched retina....I started getting floaters around 35 years of age (and I have several) that I was worried about. I was reassured by my Dr that this is a normal part of aging and eventually you will get used to them being there. As of now, I don't see them all the time as it has been a few years and I have adjusted to them being a part of my vision. The only time you should worry about retinal detatchment is if you start seeing several flashes or sparks of light in your vision, small floaters in your eyes do not mean possible retinal detatchment! |
