Are floaters serious?

I'm only 15 and I already have a floater, at least I think its a floater and the sears eye doctor said it was.

basically its just a see through little yarn like thing that kinda looks like bacteria or something weird.. It only comes up sometimes when I look into like whiteboards or the blue sky.. I can sometimes focus on it but once I do it like starts falling... or sometimes Its in the corner of my eye and when I try to look at it it flys away.. it really doesnt bother me that much but some one recently told me that this means I have damaged my retina.. well I have no other symptoms except for that one little floater

is this anything for me to be worried about?

The answer to your question is YES and then again it is NO. Floaters that you see in your vision are caused by debri suspended in the vitreous of the eye in the posterior chamber. It all depends upon where the debri came from. Most floaters are caused by normal debri that is found in quite of few people and it is of no health related concern. BUT, debri that has come from a tear or a detachment in the retina is a significant eye health concern. Only way to know for sure is to go in and let an eye doctor dilate your eyes and take a good look see inside. Hope this helped.

Float On with the Floaters!

If you see a lot of floaters quite often,it could be a detached retina.Bits of cellular debris floating within the eye are reffered to as floaters, because they cast shadows over the retina.Older folk and nearsighted people are most likely to get them.It can be caused by excessive sunlight.Floaters that coalesce into long stringy strands may be caused by a disorder called fibrillar degeneration of the vitreous. Most floaters become less noticable and are benign. Vit.A and the cartonoids complex with lutein and zeaxanthin are essential for healthy eyes. The herb bilberry is good for the eyes.
