Floaters Surgery?

I had floaters in my vision since I was little. There are not the dust particles. There are the dark annoying ones that do not change. I named them, they have been with me since I can remember. I do have other health issues (which I can blame my floaters on). When I ask the eye doctor they tell me I have to live with it. I don't beleive that, they are dark and when I feel under the weather they make me stomatch sick. Do they offer surgery to remove these spots? I would love to see without them

Me, thanks for your reply. They are dark. I have a couple light but the dark ones are in my way when I work at the computer (they move) but they are dark. I just worry how much vision I will have if I get anymore

Actually there is surgery for this. But as indicated, risk. You'd be operating on a 'normal' eye for floaters.

There are a number of conditions that can contribute to floaters. Bleeding, pigment, accumulation of Calcium salts (asteroid hyalosis), accumulation of cholesterol, inflammatory conditions, vitreous detachment, tumors,....

Have seen two people get surgery for floaters. Both were ready to jump off the bridge as they (the floaters) just drove them NUTS!

Unless you are in that group, no one is going to do the surgery. Since EVERYONE has floaters, sort of makes it....'normal'.

Yes, they can be irritating, block vision, ...but usually you can sort of slosh them over so you can see what you're trying to see.

Of the two, one developed a retinal detachment from the surgery, the other did just fine.

No, I'm affraid you'll have to live with them. I think most people have floaters, I know I do.

There is no surgery to remove floaters. Your eye doc is telling the truth that you do have to live with them for the rest of your life.

I dont know if they are called floaters... but i have them i asked my eye doctor... because i have really bad vision and when i'm looking at the sky or out the window, they always seem to make themselves more distinct... they arent dark, they look just like little particles of clear something that move around when i look a different way... i dont know how to describe it... my eye doctor said that them being dark could be a sign of a detached retna... That is not good... I would definately see a different eye doctor, or just ask a different eye doctor... even if its not an actual eye doctor...

Ok...you have a health condition that can be directly related to your floaters. The first and most important thing would be to work on getting that health condition under optimal control (I do not know what that condition is...but there are a few that can 'fit the bill') and see if that improves the floaters.

Have you seen a retinal or vitreal specialist? Most floaters, regardless of another condition, are happening because of the vitreous or the retina.

Depending on what the cause of the floaters and the part of the eye where they originate, depends on if they can be removed.

Intraocular surgeries carry risks..perhaps your eye doctor thinks that the risks highly outweigh the benefits in your case.

I understand that they are really bothersome, but there could be other reasons that your eye doctor says that nothing can be done. You can always consult another eye doctor.

I too have them....they tend to go away after quite a long time.......many years in fact. Otherwise they do not bother you, unless you keep looking at the sky always. In other places you don't see them that distinctly and so you can ignore them. They are not operable or surgically removable.
