Is it scabies or flea bites? |
I recently had a cat and she had fleas. When she ran away she left the fleas behind. The fleas bit me and my husband to death and now we have scars and scabs from scratching at the flea bites so much. But my husband's mother is convinced that we have scabies and that we shound see a doctor. But the scabs from the bites are only on our feet and lower legs. And I read that scabies affect most of the body, not one particular area of the body. How can I tell if it really is scabies, or just scabs from the flea bites? I really don't think we have scabies because its only me and my husband that have the bites. Our 10 month old daughter doesn't seem to be affected by it, and I read that scabies is spread from close contact. Please answer my question so that I can put mine and my husband's mother's mind at ease. Scabies typicaly start inbetween your finger and on your waste, IF they do leave a mark its like you took a pencil and dotted yourself with it. Scabies had INTENSE itching more so at night. If you have any concerns just go to your dr. he should give you a body shampoo it takes care of it in one day, everyone needs to use it. Good luck Very possible that it's scabies... It's not scabies, believe me you would know if it was! If you are that worried go to a doctor. Sounds like flea bites, meantime you would have to have had close personal contact with someone infected with scabies to get them. Meantime you might consider heading to Walmart for a few flea bombs to get those fleas out of your house. i thought i had flea bites on the upper part of my foot, until they didn't go away and the skin started to get hard. i stayed with a friend with a dog and rented furniture, and i frequently sit with my foot under me on the couch, so i figured it was just bites. the itching was only at night, however, intense itching that didn't go away. turns out it's scabbies, been using florasone cream, and it's clearing up after 2 weeks of redness and the hardness is going away. If it is fleas, and I believe it is, I have a solution for you. Use a pan with low sides, like a pie or cake pan, and place it in the middle of a room. Add 2 drops of dish soap, and fill 1/2 way with water. Place a chair next to the pan and use a clamp light on a leg of the chair, directly over the pan and about 8" above it. At night turn on the clamp light, and turn off all other lights in the room. Fleas will jump at the light, get burned, and fall into the soapy water. The soap is needed to break the tension of the water so the fleas will sink to the bottom and drown. In the morning simply empty the pan and flush down the drain. Move the trap from room to room each night. Continue until the trap no longer catches fleas. Keep in mind that eggs will continue to hatch for at least 2 weeks, so keep the trap active for at least that long to make sure you get them all. We use this trap often as we have three dogs that like to play outside, and the little critters ride in on them. BONUS! No poisons needed. Bonus #2, the trap also works on other flying pests that enter your home. It will catch moths, house flies, fruit flies, along with those pesky fleas. Good luck |
