Child alergic to flea bites?

My son is extremely allergic to flea bites/mosquito bites. Normally I don't think a person can even tell if a flea bit them, but it does something to my son and he itches so bad until he finally breaks the skin. His legs look terrible. But we live in the south and the grass and everything is loaded with them and they won't go away until it starts to get cold. I took him to the doctor, he just gave me itch cream. I don't want to give him an antihistamine(sp) because they knock him out. But I have just started giving him garlic tablets, the non smell type, because I heard that will help. Has anyone else had this problem? Anything that worked for you?

We have goone through tons of OFF spray. Unless he is CONSTANTLY doused with it, he gets the bites..

My youngest daughter is exactly the same. I also try the odorless garlic and it has not completely work, but is has dramatically decreased. I do continue with the Benedryl liquid, but use mostly the cream. and use repellent anytime you go outside, even if it is to walk to the car.

Me, too; they raise welts about the size of a nickel (sometimes a quarter) that itch me to distraction. Hydrocortisone creme usually helps with the itch, but I sometimes use those spray bug repellants just around my ankles. If you're reluctant to spray it on your son you might try spraying just his shoes and socks. It usually helps.

go to a vet office and get frontline plus.. it works for my dog, maybe for you kid too

This is a wild guess but sounds logical to me - would insect repellants (like "Off") keep the fleas off? It works for ticks and mosquitos when out camping etc.

The b-vitamins are supposed to help. also if you go to your local pharmacy and get a medication called chigarid it helps with the itch and seems to stop the need to scratch to death.

use TONS of bug spay and eat Italian for dinner every night: it is loaded with garlice. its most likely nothing to be worried about if all the doctor did was give you cream. the main concern would be the breaking of skin. if he doesn't scratch them for a week, let him pick out a candy bar and soda or take him to the park as a reward. use the cream to help with itchiness. it doesn't seem to harmless, but just try to aviod further bites because some flees and mosquitos carry diseases, especially in the southern states. get bug repellent lamps and keep the grass short. im pretty sure you can get spray to use on your lawn top keep them away. avoid animals that leave behind "presents" and if you have any, clean up after them. that will reduce the bug population. good luck to you and your son :-)

I have this problem, not with fleas but with anything else that bites esp. spiders (I usually end up in the emergency room getting a shot in each of ny butt cheeks). I have exhausted all resources, asked numerous doctors etc. the only solution I've ever heard is to put bug repellent on. I won't do that but I did buy a bug zapper, I feel like total white trash seeing as how I live in Southern California and no one else has one, whatever, it works, I have not been bitten by a mosquito or anything else (while I'm at home) since I bought it. So, slather the kid up with bug repellent and send him on his way.
