Can an excessive amount of flea bites be harmful on a human?

My fiance is having a horrible time getting rid of fleas. He has 4 cats and two dogs in the house. They go outside everyday to use the bathroom. The are completely covered in fleas and even if we were to get them flea collars, flea medicines, etc, they will always just bring more in from the outside and I'm sure they are in the carpet.
Lately they have been biting my feet and legs A LOT. I have around 10 - 20 bites on each foot and the same on my legs. I can't get them to quit and its very annoying.

Can anyone help me out?

There are 2 potential problems, infection and, if the fleas are infected with tape worms these can be passed on to humans.

Yes I recently have got flea bites. Seem like he is allergic to flea bites that's the only time they show up and itch. But you guys really should do something about it. too much of anything you are allergic to his very harmful Report It

Flea infestations of dogs and cats and their environment are an ongoing problem for pet owners and veterinarians alike. Flea bites can cause severe itching in some animals and people 鈥?especially those that are allergic to them. Vets often refer to the allergy as 鈥楩lea allergy dermatitis鈥? To control fleas you need to understand a bit about their life-cycle.

What are fleas
Fleas are wingless insects 1.5-4.0mm long. Fleas have a laterally compressed body (so if you look at a flea side on, it looks like it鈥檚 been flattened ie it鈥檚 tall and skinny!) and they have an outer skeleton that is made of chitin (really hard stuff 鈥?ever tried squishing a flea?). Fleas are different from lice in that lice are flattened dorsoventrally (ie they are short and fat).

Fleas are not host-specific ie they don鈥檛 really care whose blood they suck, therefore a cat flea can infest dogs and vice versa. This also explains why humans get bitten too. Fleas are not fussy when it comes to blood! Strangely enough, large animals like sheep, cattle, goats and horses do not usually have 鈥榮pecific鈥?fleas that are associated with them, although they have been known to be infested by dog and cat fleas.

Life cycle of the flea
Note that only the adult flea is parasitic 鈥?ie only the adults suck blood and live on the animal. All other stages ie flea eggs and flea larvae are present in the environment. Which explains why you get repeat infestations of fleas despite you having killed all the adult fleas on the animal if you have neglected to get rid of the flea eggs or flea larval stages in their bedding, in the carpet etc鈥?br>
Adult fleas (on the animal) 禄 hops off animal, female fleas lay eggs in the environment 禄 flea larvae hatch and feeds on organic debris 禄 spins a pupa case (like a caterpillar) 禄 adult fleas emerge from pupa case and hops onto next available animal (which could be you!) and the cycle starts again

Interestingly enough, adult fleas emerge from the pupal case when stimulated by vibrations 鈥?like you walking by, so they can increase their chances of getting onto a 鈥榝ood supply鈥? The rate of development depends on the temperature, hence the pronounced difference in the flea population between seasons 鈥?peaking in summer and tapering off in the cooler months.

Flea bites
Flea bites on humans are usually small raised singular lumps found near the ankles or feet (where the fleas get on) or can be higher up on the body if it鈥檚 the couch they鈥檝e emerged from! People with an allergy to fleas can develop huge welt like reactions which are extremely itchy. Similarly in dogs and cats with flea allergies, the scratching and secondary bacterial infection which could result from it makes life miserable.

Flea control
In general, you need to tackle flea control on 2 fronts 鈥?br>
get rid of the adult fleas on the dog or cat, AND
get rid of the flea eggs and flea larvae in the environment.
Flea control for the dog or cat
Flea washes and flea dust powders
Flea collars
Flea spot on treatments like Frontline flea control, Advantage flea control, Advantix flea control, Revolution flea control
Flea spray on treatment like Frontline spray
Oral flea medication
Flea control in the environment (more important in the peak of the flea season)
ensure bedding is dry and clean, launder regularly
kennels should be dry and well ventilated
vacuum sleeping area regularly and dust insecticide in corners
houses with indoor pets should be vacuumed frequently and occasionally fumigated

yes, very harmful. pl consult yur doc regardin yur health.take the cats&dogs to a vet clinic for flea treatment.discard all cloths&carpets ;otherwise boil yur clothes&use. throw away the carpet. if one wants to keep pets at home, should kno how to take care of them without fleas. hygeine is v.important

Once you discover fleas on your pets they are already in the house and I would suspect they are everywhere the pets have been. Buy the flea collars and also visit the vets for some frontline flea drops. This is applied to the skin of the pet and acts within 24 hours. If a flea touches your pets skin it is killed. More important it will also kill eggs and larvae. You will also have to spray the house and furniture with flea spray. It is vital that this is done to interrupt the life cycle of the flea. With regards are they harm full the short answer is yes, you do not know where they are getting their blood meals from and unfortunately scratching the bites can also introduce bugs which can cause infection.

you might need to get your carpets professionally cleaned and get your pets checked by a vet to make sure there are no flea eggs deeply burrowed somewhere in them, keep them away from other animals, esp the cats as they may go out messing around with strays and catch it off them. (kind of like promiscuous teenagers!)

take the dogs to a groomer or vet and get them dipped. While they are there, set off bug bombs everywhere in the house. After the allotted time frame, go in the house and spray Knockout (can be gotten from your vet's) on carpeting and furniture and under the furniture also. Don't forget to spray both sides of cushions and the platform where they sit on the furniture. Repeat the bombing and spraying in a couple of weeks. This time you shouldn't have to get your dogs dipped, but at least take them somewhere else.

Also, start putting some garlic powder in the dogs' food every day. Start with just a little bit and gradually add more each week. The garlic will kill the fleas.

i successfully battled an animal/house flea infestation recently using very basic methods.

i used Advantage on the animals. it spreads all over their hair, kills adult fleas before they have a chance to lay eggs, and when the animal sheds hair around the house, it kills fleas in the environment, too. doesnt matter if the animals go outside again, new fleas will die when they jump on. treatments last for about 4 weeks. i buy the largest tube available and break it down into smaller doses to keep the costs managable (vets charge about $15 USD/dose, i paid $2.4 USD/dose for my cats, via ebay).

vacuum daily, rugs and areas where the pets hang out. if you use a bagless, empty the canister immediately and remove the waste from the house. if you use a bagged vacuum, put a small piece of flea collar in the bag to kill any fleas that hatch in the bag.

with these two methods alone, all the adult fleas were gone within 3 days. im sure any hiding eggs matured, but i never saw a single flea after this. with the animals in the house most of the time, the newly hatched fleas will jump on them and die from the previous treatment.

if you cant or dont want to use flea treatments, or have a newborn animal that is too young, you can also bathe the animals in a tub of water with some anti-bacterial dawn dishwashing liquid. it will effectively kill the adult fleas. the fleas will usually still be on the animal, they dont come off well in the water, but a brisk toweling and combing should get them off. i treated an infested 2week old kitten this way and it worked well. this only kills the immediate fleas, so must be done daily since the animals will become infested again if you dont treat the environment and/or they go outside where fleas are.

also, 20 mule team Borax laundry booster sprinkled on the carpets and areas where the animals frequent should help kill off at least the adult fleas.
