My Yorkie is highly allergic to grasses & flea bites. I'm out of work . does anyone know of a home remedy ????

My yorkie is highly allergic to grasses & even one flea bite . she pulls and bites the hair out and gets big sores. I lost my job and can't afford a vet. does anyone know of a home remedy

yup keep them inside and use pee pads. If you can't afford flea medication it's probably the best thing to do. You can get 600 pee pads for $75 on ebay. That lasts my dog for a year. Allergies can be serious so that's probably the cheapest alternative and the safest.

You can buy "Front Line" at PetCo and other pet-type stores. I have a six pound chihuahua that does the exact same thing with flea bites. My vet is the one that recommeended the Front Line product to me. It's $50 for a 3 month supply. You use it once a month. It works so fast you won't believe it!

My vet also recommended we give our chihuahua benadryl for bites, itching and to stop the excessive chewing/licking. You can get some liquid Childrens Benadryl and give her 1mg per pound, so if she weighs 6 pounds give her 6mg of medicine. You can ask any pharmacist to help you calculate the dosage if you are not sure how to do that, most pharmacists would be glad to help you out with that.

As for her big sores, you have to stop the fleas and get her to mellow on the biting to let them heal. The Benadryl will mellow her out and stop the itching all at once. I would keep the bites clean, just go over them with a warm damp washcloth throughout the day and tell her "NO" when she bites/licks it.

I hope she feels better soon. There's nothing more pitiful than a teeny tiny dog that's not feeling well. Take care.

you can make a spray made with lavender and rosemary extract. Wash her often and spray her with it. You can treat her sores and bites with tea tree oil diluted with olive oil or baby oil.

You can also give her antihistamines. Call a vet's office to get dosage. You can use benadryl liquid mixed with her food.
