The previous tennant of my new flat had a dog & my legs are COVERED in flea bites! :( Any tips for soothing? |
I seem to get new bites even when I'm not there. Do I have fleas now, too? Are the fleas hiding in my bed, furniture, etc? What can I do? The first thing you need to do is get rid of the existing fleas in your flat, contact your landlord. Mean while, they have these flea traps that plug into the wall and they look like a grid with stick paper in between the lines. Looks funny but it really does collect the fleas. Sorry, I can not remember what they are called. Something else you can do to stop them from continueing to bite you is to take a mixture of bleach and water, dampen a wash cloth and wipe your shoes and lower legs. Fleas do not like bleach. Next, taking care of the existing bites. Calamine lotion does wonders in relieving the pain & itch from the bites. Possibly there are, and there's a number of things you can do to get rid of them, first off at the store, I believe it's in the carpet cleaning department usually, they have a powder that you put all over the floor and then vaccuum it up, but IMO it's too mess. Easier is a thing called a flea bomb, also a bit of a hassle because you need clear out all your food and things like that before using them but quite effective. Since you're living in a flat though I would suggest talking to whoever owns the building them first. You will need to attend to the flea problem in your flat ASAP, or they will drive you mad. The fleas and eggs are hiding in the carpet and bedding, and will attempt to feed off any warm blooded creature in close proximity. One option is to 'flea bomb' the house. A flea bomb fills the house with an anti flea spray. It is important to read the instructions on the can, and you will have to leave the house for a day. You can buy flea bombs from the supermarket. Have used them once before and they work well.. |
