6 year old son is allergic to flea bites, stayed with his grandparents & is consumed with bites?

he is covered in bites & is scratching them until they bleed!
i have done everything i know to do from benadryl to creams & nothing is helping! what should i do now?

btw...his grands are in their 80s & the dogs are old as they are in dog years.
their house is not filthy...they just cant get rid of the fleas. we've been trying for a long time to get rid of them but nothing so far has helped. its hard to FUMIGATE when they are so old & cant handle the fumes & wont leave the house for any length of productive time. i send bug spray with him when he goes but i dont think his father really pays much attention when they are over there. i cant stop them from seeing him over flea bites! i just want to know how to make them heal quicker so hes not scratching himself bloody. thank you very much!

if you are near a beach, you can bathe your son with the sea water every day for at least 30 minutes for the rapid healing of the fresh wounds. otherwise, saline solution will do but it is a bit expensive or better yet, you can put some amount of rock salt in your tub with luke warm water and soak your son there for 30 minutes. in a few days, the fresh wounds will start drying up, and will also prevent wound infections.

Take tis kid to a dematologist and pediatrition. Get to the bottom of the allergy, keep him away from flea infested areas. have the G'prnts funigate and get them to go to vet and get prescription meds to eliminate the fleas from their pets.

There are topical meds for the itching - corticosteriods are sometimes reccommended. Follow Doctors advice immediately. Fleas can transmit some serious diseases.

to keep him from itching, my son is the same way with ants, i put peroxide on it, burns at first but relieves inching

inching creams, i have not found, but to keep the bugs off of him try garlic pills

and why do they have so many fleas? they must have a VERY dirty home.. gross

I was allergic too when I was that age. The one thing that helped me was getting into a swimming pool. I won't cure it, but it helps relieve the itching.

I'm allergic too! I moved into an apartment that had them and I was eaten alive so I know exactly how he feels! I tried Caladryl lotion but I didn't think it helped much- I was scratching myself all the time. All I could do was vacuum all the time to get rid of them (it was only a temporary apartment) and TRY my best to not scratch them. I know that sounds impossible, but he has to leave them alone for a couple days. Once he gets over the hump, they don't itch as much. He could try the old tattoo trick of just slapping the itchy areas, instead of scratching so he doesn't bleed. I heard that Garlique was a good repellent, but I don't think it was supposed to do anything to help existing bites.

I would hit the doctor or the er, he probably needs an something stonger than topical creams.

I hope all goes well.

Call his doctor or take him to an ER. He probably needs some kind of steroid to get the allergy under control enough for the antihistamines to work.

Take him to the doctor. It is always best to take your child for medical help with a condition like this.

Hi. What a terrible thing to have to go through..for you and your son. My first thought was benadryl until I saw that you have already tried it. You could try having him use OFF repellent to prevent the fleas from biting him but more than likely you are going to have to set your foot down and keep him from going there until the fleas are gone. I know it's hard, but your son shouldn't have to go through this every time he visits his grandparents. Explain the situation to them and they should understand and not want him to go through this..he must be miserable and it's nearly impossible to get a 6 year old to stop scratching. You could try an oatmeal bath soak or get some Aveeno that you put in bathwater. You might end up having to take him to a dermatologist..and they would probably tell you that he needs to stay away from the source of the problem. If he continues to scratch the bites, it could lead to a bad infection...cant' think of the name of it..but I got it as a child from scratching mosquito bites..it's something like infitigo..impetigo..can't remember exactly but I'm sure you have heard of it and know what I'm talking about. I hope that you find a way to work it out so he can visit his grandparents.

You need to be more assertive with these grandparents and INSIST they get rid of the fleas on their dogs and in their home. This is a child protection issue. Your small boy needs protecting from this. I am a grandparent and there is no way I would welcome my grandchildren into my home it was full of fleas. You are being too kind. If you do not stick up for your child who will?
I hope he heals soon and that you can find an amicable solution.
If you can't, you will have to let the grandparents see your small boy at other places like your home, park, shopping mall etc.
Best wishes
