Constipation and excess flatulence?

I'm on venlafaxine (effexor) for depression but it seems to be causing me problems with constipation and, ahem, excess flatulence.....

I've been on it a few months and thought these side effects might wear off, but they haven't and I've had to use glycerin suppositories for the constipation. I don't want to stop the venlafaxine, because it's really helping with my depression, but what would anyone recommend for the gastro side effects? And I already eat a lot of fibre, but it's not helping with the constipation, and probably contributing to the flatulence!!!

If you doctor OKs it, you might try adding a "good" bacteria product to your diet. You can buy lactobacillus capsules anywhere you buy vitamins or you could just try eating a package or two of live-culture yogurt every day. (Just make sure the yogurt says "live culture" on it.)

You need to try increasing your fluid intake to help with the constipation. Have you tried Beeno for gas?
