Help... Problems with flatulence and gas? Serious answers only, please.?

I have a really bad flatulence problem. After meals, I often develop gas in my stomach. This is painful and it really hurts my tummy. As the gas goes lower, it also often hurts my lower back. The gas is either very difficult to pass, causing me stomach pain, or I have no control over it and it passes with a loud noise or a foul odor. Either way, it's bad for me, because I either have terrible stomach pains in the middle of the night because of what I ate at dinner (seriously! Sometimes I have to get up around midnight and walk up and down the house in an attempt to release the gas and relieve my stomach), or I get embarrassed in front of people. I try not to eat too much wind-causing food, and the doctor told me to walk a lot and to take gas pills when I have this problem. He ruled out all major stomach ailments. I'm only 17... what can I do to solve this problem?

Though you might not think it, we each have an average of 14 occurrences of flatulence per day. For an excessive amount of daily flatulence, there can be many reasons. These include:

鈥?-- Smoking.
鈥?-- Lactose intolerance.
鈥?-- Eating certain foods.
鈥?-- Swallowing too much air.
鈥?-- An overabundance of bacteria in the colon.

HOW CAN I CONTROL MY FLATULENCE?

Controlling ordinary flatulence is basically a matter of watching how you eat and what you eat. You may wish to monitor your intake of high-fibre foods such as cabbage, corn, and beans to determine which may be causing a problem. Substituting the problem food for other high-fibre foods such as bran may lessen the problem.

Beans are famous for their wind-inducing properties. However, they are less likely to lead to flatulence if they are soaked overnight along with a couple of tablespoons of vinegar. They should be then be drained and rinsed before cooking in fresh water.

Eating slowly and chewing food for longer allows the enzymes in saliva to break the food down before it enters the stomach and digestive tract.

The more that food is chewed, the more it is broken down for the digestive system. What鈥檚 more, swallowed air is a prime cause of flatulence, and careful chewing avoids the swallowing of air that occurs when food is eaten too quickly.

Some processed food items contain ingredients, such as sweeteners or preservatives that can induce wind, especially:

鈥?-- Dietetic foods.
鈥?-- Sugarfree sweets and chewing gum.
鈥?-- Fizzy drinks.
鈥?-- Whole grains and bran.

WHEN SHOULD I CONSULT MY DOCTOR ABOUT FLATULENCE?

Excessive flatulence may be a symptom of a serious health problem such as:

鈥?-- Appendicitis.
鈥?-- Gallstones.
鈥?-- Stomach ulcers.
鈥?-- Irritable bowel syndrome.

If you suspect that you may be suffering from any of these ailments, you should consult your GP.

Walk a lot and take gas pills, like he said. And try to get away from other people for a few seconds when you have to let it loose.

Have you tried over-the-counter medication like Beano?

if you take a drug called beno that would help you a lot.hope this helps

TUMMS!!!!
And walking...
and a low fat diet... All of this help...

My advice would be to try to narrow down what foods cause you to have bad gas. Then avoid those foods at all costs! I have had painful gas a few times in my life, and the only thing that helps me is to take products like gas x. After a couple hours the gas pain goes away. I feel for you! It can really really be painful at times!

Perhaps you should get a second opinion from another doctor...the serious pains at night are not good; or ask your original doctor if he/she could set you up with a dietitian who may be able to put you on a special diet that will help determine the foods that really disagree with you, like a process of elimination (no pun intended), or see if you can figure out which foods upset your tummy the most...also ask about a product called 'Beano' - it apparently relieves gas from foods and is taken before we eat...

.
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

1--- Do not Eat too frequently and munch snacks or other foodstuffs between meals

2---Avoid Foods like lentils, beans and dals

3---Avoid over eating...have smaller meals... divide two meals into three

4---Dont Supress the natural impulse to pass stools...ensure regular bowel movement at least once a day...avoid constipation at all costs

5---Do not sit for long hours in uncomfortable postures

6---Stress and Tension can also cause it

7---Take a simple diet for a week ... have buttermilk and yoghurt...add salads and ruffage to your food

8---Drink plenty of water, it works wonders

9---Walking 30 minutes per day is a good way to keep the bowels clean

10---When you get up in the morning, the first thing you do is to have a glass of luke warm water

11---Applying hot water bottle to the stomach eases the pain and also helps clean the bowels

12---Yoga is a wonderful way to stay fit
