First aid question?

I am state certified in CPR and First Aid, I don't know how to look for this so, would anyone happen to know what kind of jobs i could get with this certification? If you know could you please list a few jobs that require it. thanks

Besides being Certified in CPR, you need more education than that to get A JOB. You could become a Medical Assistant but you have to go to school for 1 1/2 years. You can also become a EMT/paramedic but you have to go to school for that too which takes about two years. Or maybe become a Registered Nurse which take about 4 years. You can't really do much with just being certified in CPR. If you are a person who likes to be on their feet try going to school to become a paramedic.Being a life guard, they don't get paid that much. If you go to your local community college, it will be cheaper probalyand less expensive. Also, talk to an academic advisor at the communit college to find out which courses you need to become a EMT or paramedic.

u could be n EMT or a life guard at the beach or a community pool depending where u live but most likely try a EMT they always have open spots.

Hi, That is cool that you are certified for both because you may need it one day. However, I thought about this, and I believe that the only job you can maybe hold would be a lifeguard. Besides that, you will need to go and obtain some more education. Paramedics usually take about 2 years, Medical Assisting usually takes about a 1 to 1/2year to complete. You could apply for a Nursing assistant and that is about a 2 week course. Sorry :(

My efriend, you should know what you can do with your skills and your education at this momentum. Tomorrow, can be better, but is OK what i have today, is an issue of time and only the stronger survive.

You really can't do much with just that, you can get extra responsibility (and possbily bonus pay) at your *current* job, but you won't be going on an ambulance or being a medical care provider any time soon.

First off, what type of certification is it? You need to be CPR, First Aid and AED certified for the professional rescuer level before moving on. This is different than just your citizen responder CPR/First Aid certification in a few ways.

Next there's a few jobs in medicine where CPR comes into play, first and foremost: EMT. EMT is split into levels that are different in almost every state, so check with your local department of health. However, they ALL begin at EMT-B (or 1) which means "Basic" this requires 100+ hours of education, plus clinicals and certifies you in Basic Life Saving (BLS). This puts you in an ambulance performing basic first aid, you can only administer four medications at this level though (Epinephrine, Oral Nitro, Aspirin and O2). The next mostly national recognized level is EMT-I (intermediate) you're still basically an EMT-B but you get a wider selection of drugs. Finally is EMT-P (Paramedic) which is when you have access to a large arsenal of life saving premeasured-drugs and equipment at this point you're certified for the ALS trucks (advanced life saving).

Next up is nursing. There's four levels of nursing, CNA, LPN, RN, NP. You'll have to look these up yourself as I'm not a nurse, and the whole thing confuses me. Generally a nurses duties vary depending on hospital and ward, and an RN or NP can be a glorified LPN or an LPN can be an underpaid RN depending on location.

You can also go into Respatory therapy if you're really interested in the heart and lungs, at this level you specialize in patients with severe breathing problems and your main duties will be intubations, extubations, and breathing treatments (Maybe an RT can explain better) you'll definitly get to put that CPR to work here if you're in a hospital, as RTs are part of the crisis response team during codes.

All these jobs require additional education though, as I said. Most are 12-24 month programs, with the exception of EMT-B which is a single quarter of college (and pays very little to be honest, and 12, 24, 48 and even 72 hour shifts are not unheard of in that field.)

I suggest you sit and think on it though, alot of people go through their first CPR class and think "Wow this is awesome!" but the novelty wears off fast when you're working on a real patient and not just plastic a manniquin.
