Any interesting first aid facts?

Just happened to be watching Oprah today and She had this Doctor on who has appeared frequently on Her show.
He said sometimes soldiers in the field will urinate into a wound because urine is sterile and will act as a disinfectant.
Any other wierd first aid facts?

yea i heard the urin thing, dad use to tell me to pee on my cuts all the time.
another one i know of is salt on wounds, yes it hurts like h**l but it works.I got a pretty bad burn on my wrist on an exaust manifold. i probally should have went to the doctor, instead i went home and my roomates girlfreind was there and she seen it. well i went to take a shower and when i got out and threw on some clothes i went into the living room to dr myself up. she hands me a small bowl with a paste in it. i looked at her she said dont ask just put it on,so i did. you know i ran to the bathroom it made me have to pee so bad from the sting. i concedered peeing on it lol,but i left it on there .after a few minutes of gritting teeth i noticed the salt was soaking up the infection.
after a couple days of that the swelling was gone and i could use regular treatments.

peat moss also acts as an antiseptic.and clay does something to poisons.no clue what, but i seen on animal planet where birds would eat poisoness berries then eat clay.
i read butchersbroom(a type of plant) could possibly kill the toxins in snake venom(dont want to try that) .

just thought of another one. place a slice of onion on a mosquito bite or bee sting, the acid keeps if from itching and draws the venom from bee stings out.

This one's even worse than yours .... I heard that ear wax is the best thing for chapped lips. Pmsl ... ewwwwwwwww!!

my husbands in the military and as far as i know they dont tell you to pee on anything, but they do teach first aid on things like your internals hanging out, you're supposed to wrap them up and secure them to the body, but not put them back in until you can get proper medical treatment, its to prevent infection and if someone gets an object stuck in their eye you're supposed to keep it AND the good eye covered, to keep them from looking around and moving their eyes cant think of anymore at the moment, these arent really weird but interesting

One post suggests onions for stings etc.. the onion is natures strongest anti histamine and will counter-act a bee sting,. which is actually a histaminic reaction.
