What Do I Do If?....... (First Aid)?

Well this is not really a first aid question but I was wondering if I have heard this right?

I used to know an ambulance technician and whilst we were talking about first aid I asked her what I would do If I or someone severed blood vein.

She told me if you pinch and slightly and I emphasise slightly pull the vein it acts a bit like an elastic band it closes up after being pulled?

Is this right?

This scenario I hope will never happen but just would like advice please?

Thanks

She is right but you also got to put on a tourniquet just above the wound to stop the bleeding.

picturing in head now thanx

Sounds logical to me.
A vein being a tube, it stands to reason you could close it off if you pull it.
