What is the first aid in case of numbness of a stroke patient?

One of me relatives had a mild stroke (left side of the body was paralised) 6 months before. He actually recovered. But today as he climbed some steep stairs, he is feeling pain again in his left side, specially in the lower backbone and left hand. Please tell me, what should be the first aid in such case???

I am also a stroke victim and i am only 34 yrs old. If he is experienceing pain on the side of the body that was paralyzed there are a number of issues that need to be adressed. First of all, you said he is recover(ing)? There is not much you can do where actual first aid is concerned....treat the symptoms like the pain with a pain killer....Chances are that if he is making a full recovery, the nerve endings are usually one of the last things to recover. His nervous system may be healing and therefore causing the painful symtoms...Similar to having growing pains as a child. However, if his symptoms get worse or if you notice swelling, a trip to the ER or Neurologist would be the smart thing to do. Otherwise, try to treat the symptoms with a pain medication. I too am struggling with my recovery...My right extremities were and still are partially paralzed...I can walk without assistance, but I do suffer from mild pain from time to time and my research has shown that once the nervous system is in the process of healing you may experience some discomfort. But if it does get worse to the point of being unbearable...See a doctor ASAP..
And as always, Good Luck, I wish him a speedy recovery, not all of us recover from this illness....Only the strong survive and he sounds strong to mee if he is climbing stairs!!
God Bless and you are in my prayers!

No first aid. Ambulance - hospital.

I agree with the previous response. I work in an ER and the faster you get help, the better. You could try aspirin, but in the case of a true stroke there is a very small window of time that they can actually try to reverse damage. 2 hours I think. Best of luck!

First aid is to call 911. Don't bother to do anything yourself. It won't be enough!

Pain isn't the most common sign of a new stroke. Unless it's in the head & they have a bleed. If you are at all concerned you need to get to the ER ASAP.

Call 911
