Is clipping your fingernails really that gross?

I know people don't want to be stepping on fingernails with their bare feet; I'm not talking about that.

But why do people freak out when I'm clipping my fingernails carefully over the trashcan?

I live with 3 other roommates, and I was sitting on the couch clipping my fingernails carefully into my lap one day (I had, of course, been planning on throwing them right away). So I throw them away but hadn't noticed until I sat back down that my nails were kinda uneven, so I cut the leftover and brushed it off.

You wouldn't even notice if you stepped on one. Why did he freak out so bad?

I don't know, maybe your roommates are OCD. Are your fingernails really gross? They might not like seeing little shards of dirty nail by surprise, or maybe one of them was hit with a clipped nail on accident. Why don't you just ask them whats the problem?

People get raised with different standards and taboos. I guess what you did was seen as crass. Next time do this in your room or clean up quicker. My Father would have told me to did this sort of thing in my room. I got yelled at if my hairbrush was out of the bathroom or my room. When live with other people you have to be aware of their
sensitives.

Yikes!! That would really put a damper on the 'five second rule' of dropping a donut or something onto the floor and touching a nail clipping!!

All jokes aside, some people just can't stomach things like that. A lot of people see toenail clipping as uncouth, although it's a natural thing to do. I would suggest to do it in the privacy of your room or when nobody is around.

Sharing a place is all about give and take, so if someone is uneasy with something that is no big deal to either wait until they aren't around or do in privacy, then so be it.

I know regular house cleaning takes care of wayward nail clippings anyways, but some people have certain phobias.

To be repectful of others always do it over a trash can. It may not be that bad but most people don't like other people's fingernails lying on the floor. It's not that gross . You leave dead skin cellls everywhere. However it can be considered rude. If you did that everytime you could have fingernails eveywhere so just do it over a trashcan.

You just put a waste product from your body onto a shared floor. Wouldn't you freak out if you saw it that way--which you should, because that's what it is?

Hi Again Dan, I say It's not nearley as Gross as Chewin' Em' off and Spitting Em' out like Sunflower Hulls..?

I think your roommate overreacted, and so have you. You could have acknowledged your roommate's offence and politely informed him that you would not cut your nails again, in his presence. Mutual respect is needed if there is to be harmony in a group living together.
