Anorexic fingernails?

I've been struggling with anorexia and I've been noticing the past couple of days that my fingernails keep turning a dark shade of purple.

Is this a side-effect of the anorexia?
If so, what exactly is the reason?

have you thought about getting help?
this sounds pretty serious.
go to a doctor.

I think that's a sign of poor circulation.

Probably.

I knew a girl when I was younger who's hands were always cold and her fingers and finger nails would go a purpley blue colour. If I remember correctly, she had an iron defeciency.

Is it actually your nails or your nailbeds? FYI, I was anorexic and I'm sorry you're struggling. Do you have trouble regulating body temperature? Many anorexics have problems with this. It may be that you're just cold/having circulation issues.

That never happened to me, but anorexia messes with all of your systems so it could be a result of that - though not one that you hear about a lot.

yes- lack of nutritian.

anorexia causes all sorts of horrible things to happen, hair falling out, fingernails becomming diorientated, dizziness, fainting, and not to mention all the internal issues that happen with your body.

also as an fyi - the more you starve yourself the more weight you will gain when you eat because you have put your body into starvation mode, meaning it hoards calaries and fats and doesnt like to release them.

i hope you are able to over come this and live a healthy, happy life! trust me, its not worth starving yourself and hurting yourself for that idealistic and many times unachieavble skinny standard. theres more important things, like love and happiness that are alot better and easier to achieve. :)

one pf the symptoms is brittle nails... idk...see for yourself...

My nail beds turn purple or blue when I'm cold due to poor circulation. I especially notice it when I haven't drank enough fluids throughout the day.

dark fingernails usually denotes anemia and if you have a eating disorder this is expected once you get your disorder under control this will go away in the mean time get medical attention your iron can be at a dangerous level if you have been feeling light headed or having headaches go to the hospital asap

its a sign of malnutrition, get vitamins and paint your nails!
