Fake fingernails?

is is safe for a type 2 diabetic to get fake fingernails?

I'm a diabetic and get fake. acrylic tips added to my nails. I don't think it should be a problem. Just make sure you don't have and cuts or broken skin on or around the nail. and make sure the nail shop is clean, And that they use sanitized instruments on your nails.

I don't see why not?

Yes. So long as you don't want to bite them.

i am a type one and i was told never to get fake nails because fungus grows under the fake nail and you will get an infection. my doctor made me take mine off in his office one time. SO i would say no but ask your doctor to make sure.

don't do it, don't do it, don't do it!~
I had them on for a year and they ate away at my nails, my thumbs got some green under the nails and they were all bumpy, in Feb I asked they remove them- here it is July and after soaks in alchohol and letting them grow out, they are almost perfect- when they were removed, they had so much damage and were paper thin, they would just bend like paper- don't ruin your nails, put nail hardener on your nails and keep them filed, they will grow strong and healthy and you won't need to put the fake ones on.
I see women now with them on and not only do I thank God I don't have them because of the inconvenience of having to go back every 2 weeks for fill ins, but they look FAKE and rediculous to me now.

"Question:
My 18 year old daughter who has poorly controlled type 1 diabetes (hemoglobin A1c: 11.2 - 12.0 % for the past year) wants to get fake fingernails done in a salon, and I am wondering if she should do this. I know they use glue to put them on, and it seems like it could cause a fungus infection.

Answer:
Those nails can increase the risk of infections in the fingers, especially when they are used for a very long period of time."

I'm a type II and I get my nails done occasionally--usually only for special occasions. I haven't had any problems with them and the longest I've ever had them on--including the refills, was a month and a half. So for short-term they're fine-as long as you find a reputable salon. Check with your local health department to see if the salon you've picked has a good record before you get them done.
