Why do my fingernails peel?

I don麓t mean nail polish, the fingernails themselves peel.

I dont know all the details but if they are peeling on the top in layers you probably have dry nails, get some cuticle oil and rub them in that should help also make sure your lotion doesn't have alcohol in it. Unless you just took off acrylics then that is why they are peeling they are damaged, if that is the case then buff them gently and get a protine base coat and paint them with that every other day change the polish once a week this will help them grow so yuo can get rid of the damaged part. If they are breaking and peeling off in a chunk then you have just let them grow too long, try keeping then at a nice and comfortable length and they will last a little longer! Hope this helps! P.S. If it was a fungus like the other person said your nail would actually be lifting off the nail bed or be super thick and peeling. Like I said If I knew more details I could let you know more! Oh one other thing that would make your natural nails peel is if you actually peel or pick your nail polish off that would peel layers of nail off with it and damage the nail and make it peel on its own.

Tank you for answering my question. i will try my problem is i can't pick any thing up like change if it falls on the floor Report It

My fingernails have peeled for 50 years. I finally tried Prenatal Vitamins with Iron. My doctor said that it was probably the iron. I have not had a fingernail peel since I started taking them 3 months ago. I've tried all the so called remedies and this is the only one that worked for me. Report It

My manicurist suggested that I had dry nails but really didn't know for sure. Pregnant woman usually have healthy nails, perhaps due to the prenatal vitamins with iron that they takes. Iron deficiency may not show up in tests until you are low enough to be classified as anemic. Report It

Go to the doctor, use all the fungus stuff, paint them clear regularly, and don't pick at them.

YOU ARE LACKING A VITAMIN.TRY VITAMIN B-12,B COMPLEX.PLUS EAT MORE EGGS,NUTS,VEGTABLES,BUTTER AND WHOLE MILK.ALL THAT HELPS NAILS.ALSO YOUR IRON COULD BE LOW,SO TELL YOUR DOCTOR OK.GOOD LUCK AND BEST WISHES. =)

It's because they are dry. Try lotion, or there are polishes that help to make your nails stronger and more healthy.

Nail oil seems to really do the trick..
Use it night and morning.. rub it into the nail, nail bed, and cuticle... really works.
