When shampooing, supposed to use fingernails?

Am I supposed to use my fingernails when shampooing my head? Well I mean, do I actually make contact with my scalp using my nails, or do you just use your fingertips?

I've been getting some scalp irritation, just wondering if using my fingernails is the cause.

Do NOT use your fingernails when you wash your hair. Your nails can scratch up your scalp. You wouldn't scratch at your face the way you're scratching at your head, would you? The skin on your scalp is the same as the skin on your face; it is just as delicate.

Use your fingertips. You don't need to scrub off your scalp. Just wash your hair gently and the irritation should go away.

It doesn't matter...

You're really not supposed to use your fingernails, but it sure feels good sometimes.

Yes, if you are scratching the surface of your scalp, then your shampoo and hair products are irritating the places where the skin is broken! Most hairdressers would say that you should use the pads of your fingers to wash your scalp. Fingernails can hurt your skin and even shred your hair! Be gentle.
