How come my fingernails are curling?

When I was younger, I was always able to grow long, beautiful, straight nails, but the last few years my fingernails are growning downwards and curling along the edges. Could this be due to an unknown health problem, damaged fingertips, or what? Nobody else in my family has this problem.

If your mean "downward-curved nail ends" - which is all I could find in my book - it says may denote heart, liver or respiratory problems. Do you have asthma by chance? It was the only thing that I could think of because my sisters nails are doing the same, curling down at the ends only though. She has a touch of asthma and last fall she had pneumonia so her lungs have been strained.

I am able to grow quit long nails and I know mine curl down a bit after the white part of the nail is quite long. ie. 1/2 inch or so. Is that what you mean?
