Dirt under your fingernails?

I've done some groundskeeping, weed-pulling, and general gardening. After I got the dirt under my fingernails, it seemed very natural and I liked it. Have you had the same feeling? How can we characterize this feeling?

Hi Vonhiggins,
"Satisfaction", is the "sense".. of being whole and complete.. nothing missing, no deficiency.....
>>>>>>>>
This is a "state", which is available to all healthy people, but is somewhat rarely experienced by most... The reasons it's rare.. are rooted in our delusions about what it means to BE... Instead of simply learning to be present with life as it is.. at each moment, we're usually engaged in a futile struggle to maintain and promote a false kind of identity, one which seems to be separate from : "the whole of life"....
>>>>>>>
The mind's preoccupation with this "clinging to self" prevents it from simply relaxing and BE-ing here and now, "satisfied", "creative", "relaxed", and "whole", and content, in that case : with "nature" .... :)

Thanks, for the question! :)

My regards!

*Have a nice weekend*

Thank you, Vonhiggins! :) .. And, you're welcome :)
That's what I was referring to, in my answer...and that must have been a wonderful feeling!

My regards!

*Big Sunday Hug* Report It

i think it kinda hurts...

yes, i have .. but i think its kind of a weird feeling! xD

Disgusting.

It's okay while you're digging in the dirt - but once you wash your hands - clean your fingernails!

No, dirt under the nails, ick.

Personally. I see it as a reminder of acomplishment. After i work on my car and get something fixed i love the feeling of having greese and oil and dirt on my hands. It reminds me that i actually got up and did something. And most people when they were kids loved to get dirty for some reason...who's to say that it goes away when you grow older?

Earthy!
Au natural
Bonding with Mother Nature

But what I've always told my kids was, "wow! You're having FUN!"

please clean your nails. under your nails is a great place for germs to grow. now think about it you go to eat a finger food and you put your finger in your mouth all that dirt is going into your body might as well eat the dirt instead of the food.

Are you sure it is about the physical sensation of the dirt under your nails? For me it would be more about the psychological benefits of being outside, absorbing the suns rays, smelling the earth and flowers, basically communing with nature. Granted there are some positive, physical aspects and general sense of well being that light-to- moderate exercise that the gardening provides; however, I am doubtful of the "Dirt under fingernails" theory. Perhaps you could try an experiment. Without doing the weed pulling etc...or spending time outside, just quickly go out, get some dirt under your nails & come back in. Leave it that way for some time and Then note the sensation. Curious to what you find out.

Somebody decided that all Americans could make a living with nary a dirty fingernail. We could get rich typing on computers and selling overpriced junk to each other. People in other nations were glad to do what we no longer found convenient 鈥?get their fingernails dirty. They make the products we sell to each other.
So hell there is a start, be proud.
