Straight black lines on fingernails????

I have searched all over the internet and cannot find any answers as to why my fingernails have straight black lines running lenghtwise. Also part of my cuticle is now looking black...My doctor says it's not a fungus but doesn't know exactly what it is....
I have seen all types of pics of nail problems, but none like this...anyone?

Ok, here's what I found in 10 min.

WebMd:
A black nail may be caused by an injury.
Occasionally the black appearance under an injured nail may indicate damage to the nail matrix, the area where the nail first begins to form. If this is the case, it may be necessary to remove the nail and repair the matrix.
---Melanoma may give a black, irregular appearance to an uninjured nail.-----

Healthboards.com
A vertical black or brown streak, especially if new, should be reported to a dermatologist. This is especially important in an adult with a single nail streak and/or pigment in the cuticle area (Hutchinson's sign). This can also be due to a benign mole, hemorrhage from trauma, or a fungal infection, but it should be evaluated by a dermatologist. Do a web search and get more info. I had a couple once, but they finally disappeared.

Consensus online is to go to a dermatologist.....and NOW

it can also be a sign of arsenic poisoning.... Report It

At first I was considering small leaks of blood under your nails, but when you mentioned your cuticle turning black, that could be necrosis (dead tissue), sounds like its spreading, definitely see a different doctor! Could be a serious bacterial infection!

I would go find another doctor because what you are describing sounds like heavy metal poisoning. You need to think if you have been around anything like lead, arsenic, mercury, etc. Go on line and research heavy metal poisoning.

Would you by any chance happen to have pretty bad nerve or nervous problems? Lines on the nails running vertical are a sign of this condition. Please let me know and maybe I could help in some way with more on this.
