Spinal injury with finger numbness? |
i had a bad fall and have had numbness in my pointer finger ever since going on 8 weeks. I have no pain just strange numbness. i have not had this seen no pain why bother anyone out there been there done that ? I had to have a disc removed in my neck due to numbness in my thumb and my right arm becoming atrophied, or muscle wasting. The fingers tell the doctor which level is a problem. My problem was at C5-6, and my thumb and forefinger were numb, so your problem is around that level. Sometimes you can simply injure the nerve, "shock" it, and it takes a long time for it to recover. Nerves grow back or heal themselves very slowly, about 1 millimeter per month. Traction, physical therapy, massage, and sometimes medications will help. You need an MRI to see if you have suffered any injury to the discs in you neck (that is the "spongy" football-type of structure that acts like a cushion between your bony structures.) All your nerves go through that small area between the bones and if anything gets into those areas where the nerves exit the spinal area and decreases the space, it can press against the nerves causing the numbness and pain. A doctor will recommend what is best. Chiropractic sometimes is ok, but if you have a significant problem, it could make it worse or not work or all. I had a pinched nerve that caused wierd numbness like that....See the doc and get better!!!!! Yep, rupture 5 discs in my thoracic spine, have had all sorts of "WEIRD" stuff take place. Good luck I worked with another nurse who had numbness in her fingers from a pinched nerve in her neck. The MD wanted her to have surgery. She wanted to explore her options and went to a chiropractor first and he really helped. No more numbness and no surgery. i had this happen to me my back was out of whack iguess my boyfreind popped it a couple of times and the finger tingling was gone it is probably a pinched nerve mine finger went numb then happened to all on my left side to all them drove me crazy it started with numbness and then tingling It may be badly bruised but that is all. Unless you are a doctor freak and by the sounds of it your not. The best thing you can do is see a neurologist, just to discard a bad injury. I've been in performing arts for over 20 years and continue to perform because I neither freak out, nor underestimate injury. A professional opinion is best. umm HELOO have u gone to the doctors if not GO make an appointment something could seriously be wrong and if u move just right you could paralyze or even kill ur self!!!!!!!!!!! Is past tiime to see a chiropractor. yes a pinched nerve and you better get to the drs. asap yes i have had that happened to me, in fact the doctor said i'd never be able to bend my finger. let me telll you what that can lead to--i pulled an360+lb man over and felt my muscle in my neck pull ==thought no big deal done it a thousand times, went home took ibuprophen and rubbed deep heat on and got on heating pad. i woke up to my 4 fingers in my right hand being numb, i thought ok i pinched a nerve. now 5 years later and several surgerys later i am disabled, my spinal cord was caught in between 4 ruptured discs and i thought it was just a pulled muscle because not that much pain, just numbness in fingers of right hand. so have it checked out NOW when you have numbness in your fingers there is a nerve damaged somewhere so don't take a chance--see a dr. The numbness could be related to spinal cord injury or even other illnesses that are unrelated to the fall. Have it evaluated to rule out the underlying cause. If we assume it is fall related the numbness may be indicative of injury that could worsen with time. This of course is your decision, Alot of factors are considered with a fall. Whether you lost consciousness, can recall the event, how many feet you fell.. have it evaluated numbness is not normal. Take care of yourself for those you love. |
