Crushed finger, finger meat pops out of front tip skin like crushed grape.?

I Fell off a ladder, landed on hand. Ring finger swelled way up, though, and the 'meat' inside the tip of the finger has literally 'popped through the skin.' It's like when you squeeze a grape, and the skin splits and the inside comes out? What is this type of injury called? Should I not use topicals on it?

It's just meat, not bone. Anyway, I've kept it clean for three days and bandaged with providone iodine, Bactine, and alcohol swabs. I can move it, the throbbing is gone and swelling reduced... but the little bloody part that's (about the size of a pea) popping through the front tip doesn't seem to go away. What is that? I've been to the ER twice but had to leave after waiting two hours surrounded by sick people. Now I have nausea and the runs and feel feverish, undoubtably having picked up something in the ER. Don't want to go back. Anyway, what is this pea-sized squirty protusion of finger meat called?

Thanks, Erasmus, Angela et al. All in all, i have yet to find a description for an injury, other than breakage, (which it's not) where the internal, sub skin stuff (muscle, tendon) forces its way through the skin breaking it apart... inside out as it were. The fingernail right above the injury isn't even really black, and the thing stopped throbbing 2 days ago. So: What do you call the 'inside out style' wound?

DON"T GO TO THE ER especially if you don't have insurance. they will send you a bill for at least $1000 for a 30 minute visit. you may or may not need stitches, try going to an urgent care clinic instead. there usually is no wait and the fee will be less than $100. you could probably get by with iodine and other stuff, but if it gets infected down deep inside that stuff won't work anymore and you wll have to take oral antibiotics.

E.R. A.S.A.P.!!!!

you should get stiches...it needs to heal properly

Maybe you should get it checked out anyway, just to be sure. Here's a pretty informative website. You could also google it yourself and see if you can find anything. Good luck. :)
