I have a sore swollen finger tip on the side of my nail, how do I get rid of it?

I don't remember an injury and there is no sign of puncture. My nail seems to be fine with no ingrown. It is just painful and swollen and red and also is hot to the touch.

it sounds like an ingrown....weird...however, keep an eye on it... if the swelling gets any worse you may want to see a doc. the fact that it feels hot to the touch indicates that there is an infection going on...it may need to be lanced.

I had that one time..my doctor told me the old folks called it a run around. he lanced it and gave me med.for infection He told me it is from keeping your hands in water to much or not drying hands good I know that it is very painful. Try soaking it in warm salt water but best bet is go to a doctor

Sounds like a infection.
I usually cut those out myself.. far less hassle and most importantly free and takes no time.. as opposed to seeing a doctor, waiting two hours and paying 200 dollars.. and still getting cut the same way, and get to eat some stupid antibiotics you didn't really need.

You need:
Stove, sharp knife, water, bandage, sink.

Anyway. Boil water, toss in a sharp knife and let it boil for another few minutes. Drain the water and in the meantime wash your hands well.

You are now sterilized.

Grab the somewhat warm knife from the sink, by the handle, and puncture the swollen part. If the yellow pus comes out, good otherwise cut open a bit more.
Of course you are cutting at that sore red point, don't cut healthy flesh ;)
Then press out the pus like any acne.

Wash your finger under how water again. Dry and bandage.
