Fifths disease and Rubella? |
Can anyone tell me the difference between Fifths disease, (aka Parvoviris B-19 Infection or slapped cheek) and Rubella? I know that once you have Fifth's disease you are or should be immune but is this the same for Rubella. Any differences or information between the two is welcome. Thanks in advace for your wisdom! =) Fifth Disease was so named because it was the fifth pink/red infectious rash to be described by physicians. The other four are Scarlet Fever, Measles, Rubella, and Roseola. Chicken pox was added later and is the sixth. rubella is german measles and you are vaccinated in the mmr vaccine you get at 1 and 5 yrs old. we check rubella immunity when you are pregnant also. If you were to catch either of these when you are pregnant, they can affect the baby. no vaccine for Parvo B19 I am aware of Rubella is caused by the rubella virus and, as you mentioned, Firth disease is caused by a different virus. Sometimes the rash looks the same but being exposed to one disease will not make you immune to the other. |
