Fibroids er what?

ive just been diagnosed with fibroids.what are they and has anyone out there got them ? what are they like to live with? just need general info really cause the ultra sound woman was a bit vague yesterday, although she did say there benign,

I have Fibroids too. They are muscle tissue growths that you can sometimes feel inside you Vagina if you press the walls.

Most people can live perfectly normally with them but they can cause certain problems if they grow large or if they protrude from the cervix. They can cause really heavy and irregular periods which I have and can be a pain but nothing too serious.

Have a look at the following link I found this very useful.

They are basically blood filled skin tags which cause heavy periods which can also be painful.
If you have a lot of them they can cause problems getting pregnant although they can remove them, but the likelyhood is they will return

If you are talking about growths in the breast, the correct term is fibrodenomas. But, I am assuming you are talking about growths in the uterus.

Uterine fibroids are not skin tags. They are overgrowth of uterine tissue. They are not cancer, but they can cause many problems. They can cause prolonged or heavy periods, frequent periods, pelvic pain, and, if they grow large enough, the can cause problems with bladder and bowel function. But, many women will experience no symptoms. I don't know what led your doctor to order the ultrasound to begin with, but I am assuming you are having some sort of symptoms.

"As many as three out of four women have uterine fibroids, but most are unaware of them because they often cause no symptoms. Your doctor may discover them incidentally during a pelvic exam or prenatal ultrasound."

The medical term for these are myoma or leiomyomata . You can find all kinds of information on the net about them.
